A Poem by Kelso A. Nicholson

I fell asleep in the wake of your breathing
like the tide rushing in and out
never still and no one's for the taking.

I drifted off at the sound of your heartbeat
like a slow drip from a leaky faucet
rhythmic and purposeful.

I woke up to the taste of your kiss
like hints of bourbon and sweet wine
hot and full of loathing, loving and passion.

All this waking and sleeping has me lost in you, reeling.
I ache to find the calm in all of it.
I fall, I drift, I wake,
and I do it all for you.
