The Weight of Modern Life

The Weight of Modern Life

A Poem by Twilight
"

Like a weight, modern life can press down on us sometimes. This poem was written with that subject in mind, for one of Angela's Contests. In this piece, I ask the reader to think about what working means to them? Is it just the wages, or much more?

"

As you can see,

we are honoured to be,

in the idealic realm of work,

something not to shirk,

Yet we try,

to dignify,

what is really only toil,

but surely worth our while?

Renumeration,

is our inspiration,

what happened to new ideas?

free-thinking disappears,

Despite our strife,

we still love life,

to "make ends meet",

is such a treat!

Some can't wait,

to make their way,

to greater roles of power,

"roll-on" the lunch hour!

I can tell someone was bored at work! Lol. No. It's actually a very nicely penned poem. And I like how you analyze your situation and put it into a poem. It's very creative. By the way. I never knew that "make ends meet" was actually that. I thought it was... "make ends MEAT" as in you go out and hunt for your meat and just get the ends or something. I don't know. But it makes more sense "make ends meet" because yeah. Never mind. Well, at least I know now!

Yeah! But the treat makes us good and tired.

This was a great read.
You could even take it up a notch and write a poem about a person going through something like this.
This reminds me a lot of my own story, "Moments."

Excellent!

Very nice.

It is comforting to "make ends meet" and know that you've worked for it. There is satisfaction in earning your keep, but when your ways of means is bound to drive you crazy...what's the best option?

Boooo to the coat-tail riders. Thank Ford for the self-sufficient ones.

My grandfather once said, "the best job one can ever have, is the one they do not need".

True, honest, and eloquent in its' brevity.

This is an interesting insight to our existence in the work place, what we achieve whilst undertaking the mundane chores of life existing just to pay our way yet growing mature in our old age, then there are the younger generations who have wild aspirations of fame and fortune with their ambitious latitude not compared to their lack of imagination and creativity which has dissolved to be replaced by a cyber space addiction.Well done ROSANNA
