HEARTLESS a young boy of athletic build waits by a water
hole.
HEARTLESS V.O
My name is Heartless and I’m a
player. Not the kind of player your
thinking about but a player in a
game. A game so vindictive that the
devil himself would spit it’s a*s
right back out. They call it Road
To Serenity and by they I mean The
Creed. A government organization
who find special people like myself
to represent our kind in a free for
all death match. If you win you get
your life and the five million
dollar first prize but if you lose.
Well I guess you heard me when I
said death match. As for the
special part well all players in
the game must have a proven certain
ability like a telepath or super
speed. What can I do.
Heartless summons a tornado.
HEARTLESS V.O
I can talk to the elements.
LILLY a small ten year old girl runs through the trees. She
pauses to catch her breath. Footsteps are heard and suddenly
TANK a short but muscular male stops in the forest.
TANK
Where are you little girl? Come on
out and play with Tank.
Lilly does her best to stay hidden. Tank searches for her.
TANK
Here girlie girlie girlie. I
promise I won’t hurt you. I just
want to tear off your face.
Lilly pokes her head out and quickly hides again before he
sees her. Tank brushes past the tree directly behind her and
heads out of the forest.
Lilly catches her breath and moves quietly towards the exit
of the forest.
On her way out she stumbles into Tank.
(CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 2. TANK Got you! He grabs Lilly and she struggles to get free. Lilly uses her
mind powers and sends Tank flying across the ground. She
smiles as if proud of herself and runs off.
Tank gets up looking less than pleased.
BLONDIE a beautiful blonde girl walks around the game zone
looking confused.
She hears a sound behind her and turns to see what it is.
Now walking backwards Blondie and Heartless crash into each
other.
Blondie begins attacking him and he tries to restrain her.
Heartless ends up on top of Blondie.
HEARTLESS
I’m not going to hurt you alright.
Just calm down. What’s your name.
BLONDIE
Get off me.
HEARTLESS
Please to meet you get off me I’m
Heartless. Heartless stands up and Blondie quickly gets to her feet
still looking ready to fight.
HEARTLESS
You can relax if I wanted you dead
you would be. BLONDIE
How do you know? You don’t know
anything about me.
HEARTLESS
I know your not here to play the
game. BLONDIE
Game? What game? Where the hell am
I? HEARTLESS
Road To Serenity. Represent your
paranormal persona. Five million
dollar first prize. Any of this
ringing a bell?
(CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 3. BLONDIE
Five million dollars?
HEARTLESS
Sure the money thing you remember.
Heartless turns and walks off. Blondie follows behind him
keeping her distance.
BLONDIE
Look who are you?
HEARTLESS
I’m just a player like you.
BLONDIE
The Creed. I was at home and they
kidnapped me. I woke on a beach and
found my way here.
HEARTLESS
You were chosen like the rest of
god knows who in this round of the
game.
BLONDIE
Me chosen but why? I don’t want to
kill anybody.
Heartless spins around to Blondie.
HEARTLESS
So you do know what this game is
about. BLONDIE
I may have heard of it.
HEARTLESS
Well look you are about to do more
than hear of it. Your in it and
unfortunately for you not all other
players share my concept of peace.
BLONDIE
But your name is Heartless. Why
would they call you that if you
were peaceful?
HEARTLESS
The Creed use our game names to
sell us to the many billions of
fans watching this on the internet.
(MORE) (CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 4. HEARTLESS (cont’d)
They must have given you a more
appealing name then Get Off Me.
Heartless continues walking away. Blondie is resistant but
still follows behind.
BLONDIE
Blondie. They called me Blondie.
Heartless smiles to himself.
Running through the trees is ROGUE a tough looking chick
carrying an assault rifle. She takes a knee and fires a few
shots.
GHOST an athletic male uses the trees for cover.
ROGUE
Time to die pretty boy.
Ghost takes a deep breath and as he steps out of cover he
turns invisible. Rogue fires but misses him.
ROGUE
D****t! Where did you get to Harry
Potter. Rogue is suddenly taken off of her feet and her gun is
kicked away. She pulls a dagger out of her boot and begins
slashing at the air.
ROGUE
Come out here and fight me like a
man you p***y.
Ghost appears behind her. Rogue turns to slice him but he
blocks and knocks her back.
GHOST
Here I stand he man.
ROGUE
Did you just call me a (a beat) You
motherfu. Rogue starts attacking Ghost and she manages to stab him in
the shoulder. He yells in pain and quickly goes invisible.
Rogue picks up her gun and begins rapidly firing through the
trees. She eventually runs out of ammo.
(CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 5. ROGUE
You think you can hide forever.
Heartless and Blondie are back at his camp. They across from
each other silent.
HEARTLESS
Your not still afraid of me are
you? BLONDIE
I don’t know what I’m afraid of.
I’ve been here four hours and the
only other person I’ve seen is you.
HEARTLESS
And are you dead yet?
BLONDIE No. HEARTLESS
Look. Trust me when I tell you I
want only one thing. To get as many
out of this game alive as I can and
stop The Creed from running this
sideshow.
BLONDIE
That’s two things.
HEARTLESS
Oh so your going correct me now. Is
that supposed to make me want to
kill you?
BLONDIE
Uh! No. Maybe. Probably.
A noise is heard in the bushes and Heartless stands up.
Blondie stands up after him.
HEARTLESS
Hold on. Hello! Whoever is out
there show yourself now.
Nothing but wind is heard. Then out of the bushes runs ROVER
a small ten year old boy. He charges Heartless and knocks
him off of his feet.
Rover then circles a scared Blondie. He begins barking at
her. Heartless gets up and Rover charges at Blondie.
(CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 6. Blondie closes her eyes, raises her hand and clicks her
fingers. She slowly opens her eyes and sees Rover standing
right in front of her.
He is frozen solid. Heartless smiles and walks up to Rover
waving his hand in front of his face.
HEARTLESS
Your a time warper. I’ve only heard
about your kind in stories.
BLONDIE
Is he dead?
HEARTLESS
Dead. No he’s just frozen. You
didn’t know about your power?
BLONDIE
No it’s not that. It’s just the
last time I used my power in a
fight I sent a man through a vortex
and he landed on the spike of a
tractor.
HEARTLESS
WOW so you can do more than just
freeze people.
BLONDIE
How do I unfreeze him?
HEARTLESS
I don’t know.
BLONDIE
What do you mean you don’t know!
HEARTLESS
I don’t KNOW. I’m not a time
warper. BLONDIE
Great so he is dead.
HEARTLESS
Can’t you figure out a way of
unfreezing him?
BLONDIE
NO! (CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 7. HEARTLESS Why not? BLONDIE
I never learned how okay. My father
tried to teach me but I freaked out
about what I was and I never
learned how.
HEARTLESS
That was probably a bad call.
BLONDIE
You think.
HEARTLESS
Alright. I can try something but I
can’t be sure it will work.
Heartless gently pushes Blondie back and steps in front of
Rover. Heartless places his hand on Rover’s head and closes
his eyes.
After a few seconds Rover begins trying to attack Blondie
again. Heartless tries to restrain him but finds it hard.
Heartless pushes Rover back and he runs at Heartless.
Heartless straight punches Rover in the face knocking him
out.
Blondie gasps in terror.
BLONDIE
Holy s**t!
She runs over to Rover and checks on him. Blondie looks up
at Heartless.
BLONDIE
You just hit a kid.
HEARTLESS
No I think I hit a wild animal.
BLONDIE
Peaceful huh?
HEARTLESS
He was trying to attack you.
BLONDIE
Oh so you’ll punch a ten year old
in the face to protect me. How
sweet.
(CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 8. HEARTLESS
Oh come on. I could have killed him
but I didn’t. Blondie stands up and looks behind Heartless. He notices the
stare in Blondie’s eyes and he turns to see Lilly behind
him.
Lilly looks over at Rover and glares at Heartless.
HEARTLESS
Hey kid now just relax okay. We
don’t want to hurt you.
Lilly uses her power and sends Heartless flying across the
ground. Blondie runs for him but she too is sent flying.
Lilly runs over to Rover. She begins shaking him.
LILLY
Rover! Rover get up. Oh please get
up.
Rover begins to stir and wakes up and sees Lilly.
ROVER
Lil. What happened.
LILLY
I thought they killed you. I’m glad
your okay.
Lilly hugs Rover.
Heartless and Blondie both walk over to Lilly and Rover.
Lilly stands up protecting Rover.
LILLY
Back off!
HEARTLESS
Whoa! Just take a chill pill okay.
We don’t want to hurt either of
you.
Rover gets up.
Tell that to my face.
ROVER (CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 9. LILLY
Your face.
ROVER
Yeah this a*****e punched me.
HEARTLESS
A*****e? Really kid. Your just
gonna talk like that. He tried to
attack us so yes I punched him.
LILLY
How dare you.
HEARTLESS
How dare I!
Blondie steps in the middle.
BLONDIE
Everybody just calm down. Look I
know what you kids must think but
we are not here for the same reason
those other players are. We want to
get out of here alive and help
anybody else who wants the same.
LILLY
That’s impossible. Only one person
gets out of this alive.
HEARTLESS
Are you sure about that.
LILLY
Yes. I’ve read the rules.
HEARTLESS
How about your boyfriend.
ROVER
What did you say!
LILLY
He is not my boyfriend. And we know
what may happen but we made a
promise to each other. We won’t be
fighting one another.
HEARTLESS
Oh so that’s kind of like the
promise I made with myself when I
said. I know there is a way to get
(MORE) (CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 10. HEARTLESS (cont’d)
out of this alive with other
people. As long as we band together
we can beat The Creed and this sick
game.
The kids look at each other then back at Heartless.
LILLY
Here’s the thing. We don’t trust
you either of you but if you can
convince us we may decide to not
kill you both.
BLONDIE
Well that’s a start. I guess.
HEARTLESS
Convince you how?
LILLY
You can start mr hero by showing us
how protected we’ll be.
Lilly folds her arms as does Rover. Blondie just looks at
Heartless and smiles.
HEARTLESS
Proving myself to a couple of kids.
Boy I have lowered my standards.
Alright fine.
Heartless focuses and with the swish of his hands he sends a
fire ball flying into the ground. Blondie and the kids watch
on in amazement.
HEARTLESS
Ta dah! Are we happy now?
BLONDIE
That was amazing.
ROVER
It was okay. I still think human
torch is better.
HEARTLESS
Aha! Good old Johnny Storm. The
thing about torch D is that he can
only use fire. I can use a variety
of elements.
(CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 11. Bull. ROVER LILLY
No. I’ve read about your kind. Your
an elementist. You can summon the
power of fire, air, water, earth
and spirit.
BLONDIE
So that’s how you unfroze him. You
got into his mind.
HEARTLESS
Okay well this talk has been
ravishing but I’d like to get out
of here now.
BLONDIE
What do you say kids? Will you band
with us.
They look at each other.
LILLY For now. EXT.WILDERNESS.AFTERNOON
Rover is alone he lays looking up at the sky. Lilly quietly
lays down beside him. Rover looks to her and shakes his
head.
ROVER
You really shouldn’t sneak up on me
like that. I could have killed you.
LILLY
You kill me (a beat) please.
ROVER
Watch it!
LILLY
I know I know. Your father was a
werewolf. ROVER
Actually it was my mother. My
father was a hunter.
(CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 12. LILLY
So do you trust them two?
ROVER
Don’t know yet. They seem okay I
guess. LILLY
Until our backs are turned.
ROVER
Our backs are turned now.
They both look at each other and Lilly takes a hold of
Rover’s hand. They share a smile.
EXT.BAY AREA.AFTERNOON
Heartless stands on the sand skimming stones. Blondie sneaks
up behind him and he is slightly startled.
BLONDIE
Sorry I didn’t mean to scare you.
What are you doing?
HEARTLESS
Nothing. Just trying to plot our
way out of here. You know I have
looked for every possible exit and
there doesn’t seem to be one.
BLONDIE
I’m worried about those kids.
HEARTLESS
They just need their time to think
about weather they’re going to
trust us. The girl seems smart,
they’ll come around.
BLONDIE
I hope so.
Blondie picks up some stones and also begins skimming them.
Heartless’s stones just keep sinking.
HEARTLESS
I have never been able to skim
these things without using my
power. Not even as a kid.
(CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 13. BLONDIE
It’s pretty easy. Watch.
Blondie skims hers with ease.
BLONDIE
You see. It’s all in the wrist.
They gaze at each other then both of them kiss.
EXT.WILDERNESS.AFTERNOON
A shadow covers both of them. They look up and Rogue looks
down at them.
Rover and Lilly slowly get to their feet.
Rogue looks at them with an evil smile.
LILLY
Now would be a good time to run.
ROVER Yep. They turn to run but Rogue grabs Rover by the shirt and
yanks him back.
ROGUE
I’ll make it quick.
Lilly turns and sees Rover caught.
ROVER
Lilly don’t just run!
LILLY
No! Rover!
ROVER
Get the others. Go!
ROGUE
Yeah little girl run. I’ll give you
a head start. LILLY
Leave him alone.
Rover stomps on Rogue’s foot and she let’s him go.
They run off but Rogue recovers and pulls a dagger out of
her boot. She aims at Rover and throws it.
(CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 14. It lands in his back. Rover yells in pain and falls to the
ground. Lilly falls with him.
LILLY
Rover no! Come on we get you help.
ROGUE
Poor little ones strayed to far
from their safe zone. You had your
head start. Time to die.
LILLY
Stay back! Or I swear you’ll be
sorry. ROGUE
Ooh I’m so scared.
Rogue pulls out two pistols. Rover looks up at Lilly.
ROVER
(Weakly)
Lilly.....run.
Rogue finishes Rover with a single shot. Lilly’s eyes grow.
LILLY
An alarm sounds loudly.
EXT.BAY AREA.AFTERNOON
Heartless and Blondie both turn around on the sound of the
alarm.
BLONDIE
What was that?
HEARTLESS
The elimination alarm. Somebody’s
been killed.
Heartless and Blondie take to their feet.
EXT.WILDERNESS.AFTERNOON
Rogue puts the both pistols back on Lilly and Lilly raises
her hand. Rogue starts to walk towards Lilly but then
suddenly freezes.
NO! (CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 15. LILLY
I told you to back off.
Rogue looks scared at Lilly. She tries to shoot her but
can’t. Slowly Rogue puts both pistols to either side of her
head.
Then BANG! Rogue shoots herself. The alarm sounds again.
Heartless and Blondie come running and they find Lilly
standing and Rover on the ground.
BLONDIE
What happened here? Are you
alright? LILLY
She shot him. I couldn’t let her
live. Lilly hugs into Blondie and begins to cry. Heartless stands
looking upset.
HEARTLESS
I’m sorry. We gotta get back to
camp it’s not safe out here.
From above Ghost drops onto Heartless. Lilly and Blondie
turn and see it happen.
BLONDIE
Heartless!
HEARTLESS
Go just go! Get out of here!
Blondie takes Lilly and they run off. Heartless struggles
with Ghost and manages to get him off.
Back on his feet Heartless begins throwing fireballs at
Ghost. Ghost turns invisible. Heartless is loses sight of
him.
HEARTLESS
Where are you? Come on out here
now. Suddenly Heartless is hit again and again. The final hit
knocks Heartless backwards.
Ghost reappears standing over Heartless. He pulls Heartless
up and begins punching him.
(CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 16. Heartless blocks and begins fighting back. Heartless lands a
picture perfect jump kick to the side of Ghost’s head. This
puts him stars.
Heartless gains some distance between him and Ghost and
begins summoning his power.
A rumble shakes the ground and Ghost looks on unknowingly.
Then Heartless creates a huge flood of water and sends it
towards Ghost.
GHOST Oh s**t! Ghost is hit by the wave and when it clears there is no sign
of him.
Heartless stands, out of breath.
Blondie is comforting a still upset Lilly.
BLONDIE
I’m so sorry about your friend but
we can’t let this stop us from
stopping The Creed. We have to
focus on getting out of here.
LILLY
How? There is no way out you know
that. We have to fight there isn’t
any other choice.
BLONDIE
Yes there is. Heartless will lead
us out of here I know it.
The alarm sounds and concern becomes Blondie.
LILLY
I wouldn’t get my hopes if I were
you. They both stand waiting for a few minutes then Heartless
comes walking around the corner. Relief shoots into Blondie
and she runs to him.
Blondie dives into his arms and they kiss again.
BLONDIE
I’m sorry. I heard the alarm and I
thought. (CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 17. HEARTLESS
It’s okay. How is she.
Lilly comes over.
LILLY
You had us going for a second
there. Look I’m. HEARTLESS LILLY
Save it. I need to know one thing
right now. Do you really know a way
out of this game zone or are you
just hopeful?
Heartless looks to Blondie with no answer. Lilly shakes her
head.
LILLY
I thought so.
HEARTLESS
There is a way out. We just have to
look harder.
From behind Lilly comes Tank.
TANK
Found you girlie.
They all turn in and see him.
HEARTLESS
Who are you.
TANK
I’m the insect crusher. Here to
crush me three little bugs.
LILLY
You’ll have to kill me first.
TANK
As you wish.
Tank goes for Lilly but Heartless throws a fireball in his
way.
(CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 18. TANK
Oh. So you want to play it like
that. Tank jumps into the air and bashes the ground with his
fists. This causes a rock slide.
HEARTLESS Watch out! Heartless tackles Blondie out of the way. Lilly turns to
Tank.
TANK
Nobody to save you now.
LILLY
I don’t need saving.
Lilly uses her power against Tank who begins punching
himself in the face.
He grabs his own hand, fighting Lilly’s power with all he
can. Suddenly he stops trying to hit himself and Lilly looks
stunned.
How? My turn. LILLY TANK Tank stomps the ground and Lilly falls over. Tank walks over
to her and tries to stomp on her but Lilly rolls around and
dodges him.
TANK
Stay still insect.
Lilly uses her power to stop Tank’s foot inches from her
face. Tank tries to fight against it but can’t.
Lilly stands up and with force sends Tank flying backwards.
Tank shakes off the hit and gets up.
TANK
Enough! Now you die.
Tank begins pounding the ground and Lilly is moved closer to
him via this action. Before she can run Tank grabs a hold of
her.
Heartless and Blondie wake up and see Lilly in Tank’s grasp.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 19. Tank begins squeezing Lilly and she screams.
HEARTLESS
NO! Heartless runs for Lilly but Tank stomps the ground and he
is knocked backwards.
Lilly looks to Heartless with pain in her eyes then with one
final squeeze Tank ends Lilly and throws her body across the
sand.
BLONDIE Lilly! Blondie gets up and as Tank goes for her he is frozen on the
spot.
Tank tries to move but cannot.
TANK
What have you done to me? You
b***h!
Heartless gets up and looks over to Lilly then back at Tank.
TANK
So is this how you think it’s gonna
end? Wait till I get free.
HEARTLESS
There is one thing you need to know
about me.
Heartless begins summoning his powers.
HEARTLESS
I never think.
Heartless creates a giant wrecking ball. Tank looks up above
him.
TANK NOOOOO!
Heartless drops the wrecking ball on Tank crushing him.
HEARTLESS
I just f*****g know.
Heartless and Blondie rush over to Lilly who lays motionless
on the sand.
(CONTINUED) CONTINUED: 20. BLONDIE
You did your best to protect her.
HEARTLESS
Evidently not enough.
BLONDIE
It’s not your fault. None of this
is. HEARTLESS
The Creed will pay for what they
have caused. I swear this to her
and that young boy.
Blondie and Heartless begin forming tears in their eyes.
HEARTLESS
I promised her an escape and that’s
what she’s going to get.
Heartless picks Lilly up and carries her in his arms.
EXT.ROAD.AFTERNOON
They walk off down a long, lonesome road.
