Yes I'm A Woman

Yes I'm A Woman

A Story by Inaya Khan

Yes, I am a woman and yes, I am judged and no I do not like it.
From the moment I step out of my room till I return back in the evening, I'm judged from head to toe with respect to all aspects of my life.
What I wear is everyone's concern and what I don't wear too. It's a sin to speak your thoughts out because everyone is worried what people are going to say. Because these "people" have an opinion about everything except their own flaws. What these "people" say is valued by the whole society but no one cares about what's bothering me; the pain and distress I go through because of these people.
I am a girl and so I shouldn't drink. Why? Because they're going to judge me. I'm bad because I drink. Why aren't men bad when they drink? Oh wait, didn't our Gods drink too? Oh but they're Gods!
Every pimple on my skin is my business. Not yours. It's my femininity. No one has given you "people" the right to call me ugly. I'm proud of my flaws.
I'm a woman. I'm bound to be emotional and dramatic. Unlike you opinionated "people" I'm not hollow within. I'm bound to overthink and feel insecure. That's because I love my man and I'm afraid to let him go. But that doesn't give you the right to call me a psych or crazy.
I am who I am. I'm not a feminist. I only refused to be judged not just for my sake but for other women too. And this goes out to all men and women.
So all you frustrated, yet powerful women, don't be put down by what they say. It's a mean world. Be your own strength and do what you do best. Don't think. They're going to judge you anyway. Don't be afraid to give them a reason!

Not a woman but I am very observant and having seen the plight of women change over the last six decades. It is sad to say that even though thing are better today than they were back then it doesn't speak clearly on the issues. There are many places on this planet where women can be bought and sold and the rest of the world ignores it. You have a great subject matter and a powerful message, I would suggest that if you decide to add to this story you might present it like a journal logging the chauvinistic behaviors and its effect, I also would not write in first person to show it is not just you. Sorry for getting talkative but I think it could be a great project and very publishable I give it five out of five Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!
