A Better Place

A Better Place

A Poem by Inaya Khan

Destiny had brandished its fury on her
Heaving, she looked at the bloody lump in fur.
She had lost her child, her little princess.
The man had battered the puny life and spared her dress.
He'd then beaten her raw,
And asked her if she'd pay for the son -in-law
She'd pleaded and writhed
But soon, it was too late,
For she was buried, and the sand kneaded.
She couldn't stay any longer,
Not with a monster, within a monger.
Shedding all inhibitions, Ignoring the vespers,
She walked ahead in the night of whispers.
Embowered by the moonlit night
Her trail marked by the leafy heights.
She knew not where she was headed,
Nevertheless, on the mossy path she treaded.
She knew though, she was heading towards a better place.
Agleam with beauty and solace.
She skipped in blithe and hummed a tune
A bird flapped above and offered a plume.
She closed her eyes and kissed the feather
And prayed, her child was in a place better.

Gosh, Inaya, this is very thought provoking.. I wonder what is it that inspired this write? I loved the language you used in this, gave your poem an 'old' sort of tune to it - very nice.

A little dark, a lot real, a great read!

Thank you Isabella for your encouraging words. :)
Wow wow wow, Inaya !
Once again you wrote something that is very true to life...I loved the way you ended this heart rending piece on a positive note...The whole journey of a person reeling from the death of her dear one caused by one unsavoury man is beautifully described here..
I loved this one !!

I'm glad you stopped by Lucky. I hope to write more of such stuff . thanks for your feedback ;)
This was heart-wrenching, and extremely raw.
Graphic in nature, and strong enough to visualize line-by-line.
Great writing, Inaya, even if this did hurt to read! (In a positive way, of course)

Writing, for me is when I'm in the state of extremes of any emotion- depression, happiness, anger, joy. It just strikes. Next thing I want is a pen and paper and I'm good to go. Life gives me a lot.. more..
