Like It Happened Yesterday

Like It Happened Yesterday

A Poem by Daydreamer

Race fast to chase the sun
How long can you hold your breath underwater?
Do you remember writing with chalk on hot concrete?
The days seemed so endless back then
When I was simple,
When you were young.
Oblivious to what went wrong
On the other side of the world
Even crossing the street,
Seemed impossible.
Shoelaces undone
Served as catalysts
To the fall on hard gravel
Knees split open,
Blood stained my favorite outfit.
I finally made it across Douglas and Jennings.
I still have the scars, but it was worth it...

and with this poem, you remind me of my early youth in NY...in the Bronx...the chalk, hopscotch on the hot sidewalk...everything seemed miles away...even just crossing the street to go to the park.

concrete baseball fields...skating in the park...many scraped knees, many.
