When Lulu Dances [Adoration]

When Lulu Dances [Adoration]

A Poem by Emunah June.
"

It's a gorgeous thing, when Lulu dances.

"

It's a gorgeous thing, when Lulu dances.

She becomes one with the heavens, each step

carefully mapped out before she ever even realizes

that all eyes are on her, in a moment when the room

to her, is empty of everything but the holy light she

dances for.

And I've never seen anyone dance quite like that,

but it's a blessing in of itself.

Your spirit is touched by the way she pushes her hands

up! up! up!

in a plea of love and devotion, saying

"I'm here, O God of the universe, I'm here!"

I first saw her dance on a Sunday,

when the music was in a language I didn't

understand,

and I didn't need to to become entranced

by her silhouette, poised,

wrapped in good graces.

Beautiful prayer shawls spun webs of

guidance and deliverance, singing sweet victory!

despite ---- nothing ever squeezing past her lips

and it was just that beautiful.

I clasped my chest in whispy breathlessness.

Transparent, translucent worship

open and clear to the mindsets before her.

No judgments ever mattered to her,

except the One that was the reason

we labeled ourselves "congregation".

And her bare feet skipped!---skipped!---

across the carpeted floor, her eyes

never once looking at the audience or the altar,

because the fixation was where it had always

needed to be.

Strands of silk that reminded me of fire

when she danced with the passion of a thousand righteous angels.

But the most beautiful part about it all,

is her expression; painfully pleased.

In those moments when we all see into the quiet corners of her walk,

she sees only Him, and her lips curve up into

a smile of complete adoration, and her hands

reach up to the sky, clinging to His grace

because it's all she's ever

needed,

and it's all she wants us to need, too.

It's a gorgeous thing, when Lulu dances.

Elegant and beautiful. The words themselves had an air of tone as if the poem itself were dancing to Lulu's rhythm

Well done

A beautiful story told in the poetry.
"she sees only Him, and her lips curve up into
a smile of complete adoration, and her hands
reach up to the sky, clinging to His grace
because it's all she's ever
needed,"
You gave honor and create good vision for the dancer. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

I love this poem. I love all of your poems, but I hardly ever review them, so I'm going to review this one.

It's a gorgeous thing, when Lulu dances.
I just think this is a great way to open the poem. It's slightly vague, so the poem can be about anything, but it's hooking. The word 'gorgeous' just sounds great here, and I think the name Lulu adds something special to it. It's a whimsical, slightly uncommon sounding name, and it's beautiful.

She becomes one with the heavens, each step
carefully mapped out before she ever even realizes
Something about these lines make me think of the stars. 'Heavens' along with mapped. Something great and intricate. Her dance is more than she is, it's something mystical and special (that's just the vibe I get).

that all eyes are on her, in a moment when the room
to her, is empty of everything but the holy light she
dances for.
I like how you're clear here that she isn't dancing for their attention. She doesn't even see these other people. She's totally and completely focused on the holy light (AKA God).

in a plea of love and devotion, saying
"I'm here, O God of the universe, I'm here!"
I love this cry. It makes me think of Isaiah 6, verse 8 {Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”}

I first saw her dance on a Sunday,
This line is great because it clarifies the Christianity of this (because as far as I know Christians are the only ones who worship on Sunday)

wrapped in good graces.
I just like the word choice here

Beautiful prayer shawls spun webs of
guidance and deliverance, singing sweet victory!
despite ---- nothing ever squeezing past her lips
I love these lines. You have a gift for description. I can see her so vividly. And I love the idea of worshipping God without words- because sometimes words just aren't enough.

No judgments ever mattered to her,
except the One ...
I love this, I love the honestly in it. This is how we should all aspire to worship.

And her bare feet skipped!---skipped!---
I love the astonishment. It's sad but true; people don't expect Christians to behave this way, and when they see it, they're shocked. I love how you're bringing light to this.

because the fixation was where it had always
needed to be.
It needs to be on God. Well said.

Strands of silk that reminded me of fire
when she danced with the passion of a thousand righteous angels.
Her comparison to the angels is accurate- it's a holy conviction. It's true. We should have this kind of passion, and this imagery is beautiful.

she sees only Him, and her lips curve up into
a smile of complete adoration, and her hands
reach up to the sky, clinging to His grace
because it's all she's ever
needed,
and it's all she wants us to need, too.
I love how it's brought back to the reader. This dance isn't exclusive. It shouldn't be odd or mysterious. It's open to everyone. She's showing her love and worshipping God in the way she knows how, with all of her heart and soul. We should do the same.

It's a gorgeous thing, when Lulu dances.

Amen.

Thank you for sharing.

this is beautiful...love the reinforcement of the beginning meeting the end...its strange...I see romance woven in the lines here, but its also devotional in tone....not two things that normally associate in writing easily...very interesting and some really great phrasing here too
