First of the Month

First of the Month

A Poem by ksscampos
"

paycheck to paycheck.

"
First of the Month

It comes crawling in

 Attempting to go unseen

It catches you by surprise

No time to realize

When it all falls through

It’s the first of the month

And the rent is due!

You take a deep breath

When you look at the paycheck

Your world crashes down

There is not enough in the account!

Anxiety and despair rush in

And you freeze

A sense of worthlessness

Drowns your smile

It’s the first of the month

Where is the money?

They want it at once

The feeling of uncertainty

Tumbles up in your gut

You feel small

Your mind is restless

You contemplate

In a cry for help you go to the bank

Your card is denied

There is no gas in the tank

You worked so hard

Trying to make ends meet

Disappointment sits in

Can’t even buy food to eat

It all piles up

You’re not sure what to do

It’s the first of the month

And your rent is due!

I have experienced this at times, but with my family I always have someone willing to lend a hand to help so never to the point that it gets to bad. It is easier on me because I always get money on the first though.
Good Job.

Sincerely, Malister Mikey

Thank you.
You are not alone my friend. Living pay check to pay check is not fun. I like how you expressed what most of us worry about as the first of the month begins to near.

Than you for reading and for the feedback.
I admit.. the title immediately made me think of this song.. lol (I'm weird I know)

down here it is a running joke that everyone is at the store cuz it is the first of the month.. those food stamps and child support checks have arrived.. this piece describes the other side of that dilemma.. work hard all month to find out that not only did you just get paid, but it wasn't enough to cover those responsibilities.. bouncing checks.. card denied.. cupboards empty.. thinking about surviving and continue working to fall further into that hole.. not a good feeling.. a good number of people do "survive paycheck to paycheck".. shuffling bills, prioritizing what can wait, what has to be paid, what you can do without, how you are going to manage.. unfortunately one that a lot of us can relate to.. that disappointment a heavy weight that seems to get more intense and heavier... good dose of raw reality that many of us know all too well.. good job.. love the flow, construction, and examples used in this one:)
