Devils Door

Devils Door

A Poem by Kylie Dunlop-Grigg

Driving along the road at dusk

I had just put the headlights on

Coming up to the devils door

But I was denied access

I was so close to my new life

In the fiery pits of hell

But something held me back

From the fate that was destined for me

He was calling to me out loud

"Come with me, I'll set you free"

With anger in my eyes I tried

My mind said Yes, but my heart said No

They chained me down with their love

But my will was strong and determined

I took a few steps forward

But again was pulled back by them

I fell straight down into the dark

Not knowing which way was up or down

Falling, further and further

All of a sudden light, what's happening to me

I know I must go, he's expecting me

But the ones I love will cry

I cannot hurt them anymore

There is so much strife in our lives

But I must end this pathetic life of mine

I can't keep going on like this forever

The world would be better off, so would I

Goodbye
