Please don't take him away

Please don't take him away

A Poem by SouthernBelle

She's in love with someone,
But he doesn't know it.
She's dying of cancer,
And he's fighting in the war.

She doesn't look the same,
He doesn't know that.
She's afraid of telling him,
Afraid he'll leave.

He promises he'll be back for her graduation,
But he might never make it back.
She's afraid he's gonna die,
And nobody will ever tell her.

She'll have her broken heart forever,.
I'm begging you God,
Please don't take him away,
Please don't take him from me.

The story told through your poem here is heartbreaking. The first stanza crushed my heart. She's dying of cancer, he's fighting in the war. There's just this air of sadness that surrounds the whole poem, and that air acts as an adhesive, holding the words of the poem together. The last two lines have this lingering feel to them. Very well written. I love how the lines are alternatively telling each one's story. Good job. Xx.

A very sad poem. The photo brake my heart. I was part of three honor guard teams that took the soldiers home for the last time. The poem told a real story in this modern world. I could feel the sadness and the disappointment in the words. Thank you for the excellent poetry.
