Our Lips Must Always Be Sealed

Our Lips Must Always Be Sealed

A Poem by Darl1ng N1kk1
"

A poem that has quite a few influences, but mainly George Orwell's 1984 and the song Resistance by Muse. The title of the poem is direct lyrics from Resistance (just giving credit where it's due!).

"

The law says we can’t be together.

Love is forbidden.

The new age has no need for it.

Genetics are God.

Emotion is weakness.

Our former values of love, family, community,

once treasured as ideal,

have turned to dust,

disintegrated into the night.

There are those of us who fight, however.

Love still exists.

Something made taboo becomes exciting, but also dangerous.

So we must hide our love,

keep it a secret.

Death has become the consequence of truth.

Our lips must always be sealed.

some kind of direct anti-proclamation (verse1) followed by personal proclamation (verse2), if that makes sense?!? much enjoyed though.

Why thank you! And I've heard the single, but never the whole album. Now that I know that I'll definitely have to check it out!

Love this so much! If you like 1984, have you listened to Diamond Dogs by David Bowie? The album was influenced by the novel. This poem is great! Much enjoyed reading it!
