ProgrammedA Poem by Laura Kate
I won't read the words from the script you wrote me,
I won't walk the path straight and narrow, as you taught me. I won't speak your truth as if it ought to be my own, I won't see this world through you eyes, grey and cold. I won't carry your burden which you have been unable to shift, and in not fulfilling the tasks you set, I won't accept your guilt. The colours I see light up a path that's bright and pure and loving, where at the end I reach myself and know I am becoming. I dance and skip and twirl and sing as the spirits come fluttering by, they welcome me and my weightless soul as I beam to the radiant sky. If you let yourself, I'll take your hand, and you'll see your own way to go. Your path is different, but equal in beauty, if only you could know. That you needn't carry the weight which hunches your shoulders and clicks your toes. With balance you'll find, an understanding of self and to the world your true self will show.
