Disdain

Disdain

A Poem by Laura Kate
"

The narcissist and the empath

"
These tears
will be the last ones
that I cry
for you.

That pain in my throat
I realise now
it's not love
like you said it was
it is disdain.

Disdain
for the pain,
for the way you'd scream my name
and for the blame
which you sow
into ever word you throw
 at me.

The words you spit
hurtling towards me
like a tonne of bricks.

The passion you have
I realise
is not passion
like you told me,
it is anger.

Anger,
that you stamped down
on me
like the midnight sea
drunk in its own darkness
gaining momentum
so that it can pound all of its might
back down onto the cliffs
in a fit of rage.

The destruction you leave behind
I was always trying to clear
walking away this time
with my very last tear
I think
how sad I am for you
and how much happier I could be.

Wiping the final tear from my chin
I think of me
and promise this to be the last time
that I think
 of him.

we can walk away from destruction or let it destroy us...the speaker is making a wise decision here.
the anger drunk in its own darkness idea is so strongly portrayed here.
i felt anger reading this...towards the subject of this poem.
and waited to cheer the speaker for erasing all thoughts of him.

Strong feelings conveyed here in your lines LauraKate. Some relationships are not meant to be and when they turn out as destructive as this, then it is time to walk away. In the long run it will prove favourable although short term painful.

I love the courage and strength in this.
A narcissist and an empath. Such an unhealthy relationship for anyone but especially some who is high empathy
