To All The Boys Who Suffer

To All The Boys Who Suffer

A Poem by Laura Harrison

You must be so tired of hearing about all the girls who self-harm

All the girls who suffer from bulimia or anorexia

While there you are, feeling guilty about the last time you cut yourself

Or playing with the food on your plate, hoping that your mum won’t notice.

But why would she?

Because it’s only girls that want to be thin, right?

Everyone complains about how society sets standards for women

But what they fail to realize is that women themselves set standards for men.

They talk about how their perfect man is the one who has a six pack and looks like he lifts weights 5 days a week

And haven’t you noticed how all male models look exactly like that?

So you stretch yourself to the limit to get the biceps to impress the girl

Who refuses to go out with you because you look awkward.

But I think that you are perfect;

And like everyone tells women, you don’t have to keep destroying yourself,

You don’t have to live up to other people’s expectations.

This was absolutely excellent! Someone actually reached out beyond the issues that "women" go through and look at the inside battles that men fight. It's nice that someone knows that EVERYONE has their own issues, not just women. Excellent, flawless work.

Another amazing piece . You write such inspiring poems that really apply to day to day life for most people. And ya know what ? You're absolutely right! People really only focus on the girls who have all these problems now a days and never really realize guys try to live up to the same expectations. I know i didnt realize until now, so thank you for opening my eyes to that !

Thank you. Thank you so very much. This is a beautiful sentiment, and indeed true. Image is not a battle that any sex should have to fight. We are all beautiful.
