Headphones on, World off

Headphones on, World off

A Poem by Laura Harrison

Everywhere I go

it's the same old story

people take one look

and think that they know me

they only see what's on the outside

and they don't mind telling me

that it's not what they like

but when I put my headphones on

I can't hear a thing they're saying

their ugly words can't phase me

because I never quite learned how to lip read

now I can dance to my own beat

be the strong, confident woman

that I've always wanted to be

and I don't care if anyone's watching

let them stare

let them keep talking

because when my headphones are on,

the world is off

so hit me with every bullet that you've got

I love this. The ending is great because you're screaming to the world you can handle anything and the whole poem seeps of confidence.

I like the directness and honest feel of the words.
"now I can dance to my own beat
be the strong, confident woman
that I've always wanted to be
and I don't care if anyone's watching "
True wisdom is when we lose the concern of the people who do not matter. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
