For Everyone Contemplating Suicide

For Everyone Contemplating Suicide

A Poem by Laura Harrison

Put your hand over your chest

feel that beat under your palm?

That means you’re alive

and I want you to keep it that way

because everything in life

that’s making you want to die

will change if you just give it a little time

and I know that every day so far

has been a losing battle

but there will come a day

when you look forward to tomorrow.

My dear, you have so much to look forward to;

like starry nights and sunrises,

late night conversations and first kisses,

waking up next to the person you love

and that feeling of finally being at peace with yourself

and if you look hard enough

you will find that life truly is beautiful.

And I know you think now

that you are broken

that you are too far gone

to be saved

but when Kevin Hines

jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge and survived

he later said in an interview

that he regretted his decision instantly

because he realised that everything in his life was fixable;

I want you to remember that

I want you to remember

that when things are broken

there is always a way to fix them

so don’t throw the pieces away

you do not throw your life away.

I agree.
"there is always a way to fix them
so don’t throw the pieces away
you do not throw your life away. "
We must hold on to the good. All of us get tempted and tire. We must find reason and purpose. Thank you for sharing the hopeful and positive poem. I have a young man at work. Talk about death a few months back. I found out he wrote things. I become friend and I listen to him. Sometime a kind voice and smile can save a life.
