Dear Body

Dear Body

A Poem by Laura Harrison

I am sorry for not taking better care of you

and for not loving you as much as I should,

I am sorry for listening to them

when they said you were not worthy of love.

I am sorry for all those times

I stood in front of the mirror

wishing that you were taller,

prettier, thinner.

I am sorry for making all those marks

that are never going to fade

and for all those times

I just wanted you to disappear-

I am sorry for being ashamed.

For the longest time,

I believed that I

was defined by the way I look

and to the rest of the world,

it was never enough

but I realise now

that there are more important things

than the colour of your hair

or the size of your jeans

and I am sorry for all those flaws

that I tried my best to hide;

I know now that true beauty

lies on the inside.

I am sorry for hating you so much

and for all those years of neglect.

Dear body, I am sorry

for expecting you to be perfect.

Very inspiring, and great vibes of a girl growing up to be a wonderful self respecting woman who loves herself and the way she is. :) The first step towards growth is acceptance. Love yourself. Love your flaws, love every pore and crevice of the person that you are and you will find that there is nothing anyone can take from you, and there is nothing you can't do. A very good message. Keep writing. x

It is sad how the media and society make so many people feel so ugly in their skin. Beauty comes in all sizes... and the most important beauty is beating inside of you chest.

Old age does teach us. Be content with who we are and take care of mind and the body.

Like most people. I wished I took care of body and mind better. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Awe, yes I can relate to some of these as well. It is so easy to listen to others opinions, or making up things in our heads by looking at those around us, which cause us to believe that we are not good enough. We all need to remember that beauty lies on the inside and trying to help others see that too so they don't experience the same pain. I still get discouraged some days, but I know that those thoughts and feelings are not true, just lies that are trying to drag me down and give up. I liked reading this, many can relate to these feelings.

Great Job
