I Live You

I Live You

A Poem by Laura Harrison

You know all my secrets-

Everything I’ve kept hidden inside,

all of the skeletons in my closet

and what keeps me awake at night.

You know what makes me happy

and you know what makes me cry

if there is ever a moment I’m quiet

you know the reason why.

But what you don’t know about me;

the one thing that’s the most true

is that even though you are

the best thing that’s happened to me

I do not love you.

Because ‘love’ is a word too inadequate

to describe the way I feel about you,

to explain everything you’ve done for me,

and everything you’ve helped me through.

Every moment, I breathe you in

as if you are the air I need to survive

and in a way you are

because I wasn’t really living

before you came into my life.

So in a way, I guess you could say

that I live you

like I’ve never lived before

because you showed me

what life is worth living for.
