Fire is Ice

Fire is Ice

A Poem by Leaner Pastures
"

...the shaping of things and what time brings...

"

with frost and ice it's written
with mountains, boulders, stones
to dust so slowly smitten

fat and bloated
layers of ice
accreted and coated

pried, parted
another crack
slowly started

the placid, heaved
a change of phase
the seasons, grieved

the hidden, revealed
the molten core
no longer concealed

it's warmth gone cold
and how long has
that story's been told

since the mountains first rose?
since heaven and earth was first parted
back when all things started, I suppose

and this I have discerned
about passage of time
and the things that I have learned

with frost and ice it's written
with mountains, boulders, stones
to dust so slowly smitten

not an ending or a return
just a simple fact;
in ice all things burn

Author's Note

Leaner Pastures
musings on the effects that water and it's frozen form has on the world. Essentially inspired by a pothole, ice in a crack of a boulder and the partial frostbite I got on my walk in the snow.

It was the title of this piece that caught my eye. But the descriptive language is astounding, and the imagery is beautiful. An overall excellent poem.

fire and ice . . . diametrically opposed with the power of life and death, both fascinate us, each in their own way

there is something vast in that tiny snowflake

A substantial ode to one of nature's most dynamic crafters. Very good writing, Leaner Pastures.

One thing about ice is that it will eventually melt and then new things begin to grow. Great poem.
