Some Things in the Shapes of Men

Some Things in the Shapes of Men

A Poem by Legion
"

I was bored and came up with this. The best I can say is it is about seperating one's self from God. Or the evil that men do and the consequences of it. Either/or. What would Milton say?

"

Some Things in the Shapes of Men

Some things in the shapes of men

Scurry toward condemnation

Carrying sins

With relish.

A selfish schism

Of the fallen,

Tumulting by their own device

Forward into oblivion.

Some things in the shades of men

Languish in damnation,

Held within

That hellish,

Nefarious prison.

Agony sullen.

Repenting late in their demise,

Dwelling in Pandemonium.

Excellent! I loved this! I was looking at your avi and thinking "I wonder if he's a Pink Floyd fan" and then pulled this up and LO and BEHOLD something that makes me think of the Floyd album "Animals."

These lines are very powerful:
"A selfish schism
Of the fallen,
Tumulting by their own device
Forward into oblivion."

Some who don't have a religious basis for Hell might say that the only evil is unrepentant acts against others, usually perpetrated by the strong on the weak. Don't get me started on politics or metaphysics :)

Yeah, I like this one too. Something about the shapes/shades is telling of what it's like to be in this position. Another fine piece.

A very interesting juxtaposition of shapes and shades of men. Your choice of wording is fantastic Legion- honestly. Having the mindset that i do, I saw the first stanza as perhaps the politicians, corporations and wall street lunatics that are brazen about their rule in hell and tumble headlong into oblivion, taking everything with them; the second as a depiction of those that suffer at the hands of their nepotistic decision making and exist in their shadow of fear- a causal appraoch to the issue of living in the world for at least the last two thousand years. Great stuff- cheers for the direction, spence

Dear Legion,

Yes, I do believe there are two types to the fallen: (1) those for which this is natural and welcome, and (2) those that in the end regret their choices. I think this is characteristic of mankind. There are people who are sure and happy in their choices and those that regret having ordered the wrong dish at the restaurant. Of course some decisions are more important that others, and for those of religious faith, matters of salvation of the soul are of ultimate importance.

So nicely done. You've shown us an important part of ourselves and used a powerful setting to make sure the point comes across.

Best regards,

Rick

This is so true, some people don't want to be saved, and on a deeper
level it could be their destiny. Another great write. I love the way you make
one think and ponder. You demand submission ;).

One hell of a piece on the fallen- The shapes(man) and shades(fallen) of men-total disconnection from self -Man and Angel -both made demon- Great piece- I think Milton would say - I think you got it-

Yes, your right, this is interesting. I had this image in my head of demons carrying temptations like delicious gifts at Christmas time to their appointed humans who open them in anticipation of the prize inside. It always looks and tastes and smells soooooo good in the beginning, but turns bitter in the end. I have one called "Desolate" that ties into the idea of "Some Things in the Shapes of Men" from the fallen one's perspective. You might like it.

Oooh, such a sinister sounding poem! But this line convinced me otherwise: "Some things in the shapes of men." This recognition that the sinners are shapes and not true men makes me wonder. Perhaps the essence of men is something a bit brighter?

I love this poem, because it expresses so well the fact that we are broken. This poem is amazing...
