A Poem by Leah
"

I wrote this a LONG time ago.. the summer of last year. My inspiration was the movie: 'Little Miss Sunshine' and the actress 'Abigail Breslin'. I don't know why, that's all i wrote.

"

She stood with apple eyes among the sky.

Just wanting to be free.

And just to say, that she had lived today.

“just wanting to be me.”

If her eyes could open any more, she’d be livin’ in a dream.

But then, her heart has never gotten sore,

Of anything.

She spins- around. Hoping that she’ll make a sound.

She laughs- but never cries. Hoping that she’ll shield the lies.

Hoping that she’ll –

She sang with birds without speakin’ a word.

About wanting to be free.

And just to yell, that she was done with, well,

“just wanting to be me.”

If her eyes could open any more, she’d be livin’ in a dream.

But then, her heart has never gotten sore,

Of anything.

She spins- around. Hoping that she’ll make a sound.

She laughs- but never cries. Still hoping that she’ll shield the lies.

Still hoping -

The first time i read this to anybody, since i wrote it so long ago, i accidentally left out the last verse id written. But when i read it again, it sounded better without it. So i left it out. Besides, sometimes stories sound better without knowing the ending, don't they?

I liked this a lot. The line where you say that "If her eyes could open any more, she'd be livin' in a dream" is very visual and makes a strong statement. For some reason I got a sense of whimsy from this, but a good kind. and an underlining of hurt that barely comes up to the surface. Good work.
