Thought Sheep Assembled

Thought Sheep Assembled

A Poem by Leigh

Almost a second ago things were just fine
Then came the inevitable passing of time
Words neatly assembled vanished into air
I was left open mouthed, standing there

Like little sheep, I had them neatly penned
Not scattered about and unable to tend
I lost concentration of articulate thought
My lips were dry, I was left with nought

As I turned to you slowly to my surprise
You destroyed me with a cold look in your eyes
Then the lights just went out in my mind
And in the dark, thoughts were hard to find

So little Thought Sheep come back to me
Don’t stand eating grass so contentedly
In the dim recesses you are concealed
Come back to the bright part of my field

With my flock of Thought Sheep assembled
I will deliver my words of love untrembled
You will see just what you mean to me
In flowing lines of eloquent poetry

Wow Leigh - you have put into words that feeling I get (we probably all get, I mean) - were there is a flash of inspiration and then we are distracted and the inspiration is gone. I often like to think of these partially created things as like little angels that float into the ether to be part of another creatives work and it helps me not get too down.
Fantastic poem Leigh

Great metaphors in your poetry. I have an entire different view of sheep now, as I only associated them with the counting of sleep. Great concept 'thought sheep', I enjoyed this one leigh.

Light and full of tremendous imagery - the use of metaphor is brilliantly used. Thoroughly enjoyed this piece.

I know the feeling, mate. Like having a handful of pennies and someone jogging your elbow and spilling them all over the floor...... but you`ve rounded them up very well indeed. Great verse and great cohesion, Leigh.

The little sheep in this is an incredibly strong visual, Leigh. And they add just a touch of lightness to this poignant piece.
Just everything about this works so well.

this describes brilliantly, a situation i often encounter. where the hell did all those wonderful lines disappear to? couldn't that thought have waited until i was finished penning mine? maybe if i concentrate it will all come flowing back, as easily as it seemed to come originally. outstanding write, leighgreen...very resonant and re-mindful of life as it really is!
