Stars of Hope

Stars of Hope

A Poem by Lesley Wood
"

Through lands of parched, rubbing grasses, we walk...

"

Through lands

Of parched, rubbing grasses,

We walk

Through red-orange colored fires.

Hungry sunsets feed

On our fears

Of being here-

Together.

Intense heat

leaves us feverish & sweating

Out past memories

And feelings.

We crawl from beneath

Oppressing heat

Singed & clean.

We stand tall together,

Backs to the sunset

And facing

The vast, clear night.

Our possibilities glitter as stars.

I love how you can talk about fear and oppression:

"Hungry sunsets
Feed on fear"

"Oppressing heat"

And then switch to standing tall in the face of it and realizing all of the wonderful possiblities that are out there! The ending to this could not have been more perfect:

"We crawl from beneath
Oppressing heat
Singed & clean
We stand tall
Together
Backs to the sunset &
Facing our vast,
Clear night
Our possibilities
Glitter like stars."

I like to restate my favorite lines and I find it funny with this poem because it's almost the whole thing, usually some lines just stand out more than others, but this really stood out as a whole!

Awesome job!
