Broken Box of Spiders

Broken Box of Spiders

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

Spiders or the past

"

Why should I care about the past ?
a broken box of spiders.

Why should I admire such a lot of paint ?
rain is just a lot of water, the sun a light

that is thin in winter, and the rest expected -
comfortable and lazy to the eye.

Let me climb out of a ditch next to a road,
sniff the night air, a damaged seed.

Very descriptive images that convey a lot of emotions, arousing the reader's imagination and feelings of sadness over the past and the emptiness of the present. The words "damaged seed" also has a deep meaning.

rypur poems are very artistic and i love the 'broken box of spider 'part..its a wonderful and artful way of describing the past and i think it makes the poem more beautiful:-)

We easily get caught in the web of the past, it's not always easy to break free or to dare to say that it doesn't matter.
I like the images that come to me when reading this, it speaks to me.

Eight lines that are worth a thousand. To partly quote you - poetry may just be a lot of words, however, with your skill as a writer you give those 'words' a meaning, an expression, and an important place in this world. Thank you Leslie.

For me, this piece feels gritty and intense and it leaves much unanswered. Worth reading again and again for the mood it evokes---

Hopefully there's more to the past than your eye popping metaphors...but if not, still a hell of a write. And though we cannot get through this life anything but "damaged", we must continue to climb out out of that "ditch" " to smell the night air"...otherwise we have nothing, are nothing.... and we die
thought provoking and honest write, Leslie
