Moor Girl

Moor Girl

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

Inspired by Seamus Heaney

"
Feral as leather
Sculptured as a scarab
Curved as a burnt twig

Asleep beyond the punishment
Each tress solid with peat
Flaxen as old corn

Perhaps you softly breathe with water
Under the door of the Moon
Still as the night is rain.

I love the imagery and flow of the piece. The last stanza is particularly beautiful.

Feral, wild, self-sufficient enough to survive...curved from life's harshness and pain...yet tough as a scarab--i used to wear a scarab...you paint her solid and strong, yet with a softness underneath...that stillness...

i could really feel these words...you create wonderful images...sight, sound, taste, touch and smell...

This indeed has shades of Heaney in being able to stimulate texture and smell by the written word. This is a graphic poem though with your own stamp upon it Leslie in its pace and use of metaphors.

As ever, thanks for the kind words from a poet who hasn`t a chance in Hell to write as well as SH !
great caricatures of imagery in the first stanza followed by a glimpse of a moor girl's perhaps fierce veneer, her pale yellow locks of hair covered with peat..and the interlude of soft rain against the backdrop of a savage land....thank you for sharing :)
