Death

Death

A Poem by Peyton Light
"

What is death?

"

What is death

If not to rest

And to be free

Of your regret.

Why is life

So easy to lose?

When death comes

We do not rue.

For when we die

We free ourselves,

From regret, from loss,

And from ourselves.

We leave this earth,

The misery, the sadness

We go upward

To smiles and gladness

Life and death are both free. What is life other than the freedom to experience everything? What is death other than the freedom to be empty of everything? Death is the very canvas upon which life is painted. To live is to be; to die is not to be. We are closer to death than we realize. Consider deep sleep, where there is no dream or self awareness; in that is a sort of death. We enjoy the freedom of its space; else we wouldn't desire sleep. It makes me ponder if life and death are merely a sort of dream; while we remain the ever-present witness of them both. Thank you for sharing this, Peyton. It got me thinking.

A very relatable poem I must say.....
Death is meant to be peaceful.....let yourself go....stop trying and just float.....I really liked the idea you portrayed here

Awesome rhyming scheme! I find writing with rhyming very difficult to do without ruining rhythm but you've nailed it!

I personally love this poem, and in it I find a deep calm. But, I feel you take away from it with the small emojis, it lessens the serious tone. Other than that, the wording is beautiful and it certainly is a lighter look on death, but it still possesses the necessary morbidity to keep the reader interested. Well done! Full rates.

First person I've seen express death in such a positive light. You should do some spoken word about something you're passionate about as i can see it being very good! Don't stop writing.
