She Said [LIAR!]

She Said [LIAR!]

A Poem by Eslynn

“Break my heart,” she said, “but spare me the heartache. I’m a sucker for a bit of melodrama. Leave me begging on my knees.”

This is the beginning of the end,
and you’re leaving me screaming by the door,
you’re eyes are set afire,
my heart frozen over with ice,
drop me and watch me shatter.
My ring- a lie- it slid so easily onto my finger,
weighing me down,
if my tears all pooled together,
I fear that I would drown.

“Break my heart,” she said, “but spare me the heartache. I’m a sucker for a bit of melodrama. Leave me begging on my knees.”

This is the beginning of the end.

I never would have thought,
that when everything was said and done,
and I gave you back your jacket,
you’d give me back a loaded gun.

Loaded with a single lonely bullet,
you carved your name into the silver,
just so you would know,
that you’d forever be inside of my mind.

Teenagers, teenagers…

My ring- a promise- I gave it back,
it fell so easily into your hand,
without another word,
our love is safe and sound.
“Break my heart,” I said, “but spare me the heartache.”
“You’re a sucker for a bit of melodrama, we’ve been over this before. I hope to leave you begging on your knees.”

Teenagers, teenagers…

She said: LIAR!

Such a powerful write, full of the depth of teen angst, the giving of promises, and love lost... So well done!!!
