Children's Revolution

Children's Revolution

A Poem by Askew

Come, my sweets!
I have an important lesson to teach.
Children, follow me!
Listen to my lecture on history.

Who here knows how to kill a king?
As children of the new age
This is an important thing.
Or would you like to be stuck in a cage?

No? I didn't think so.
How to kill a king?
How to block a royal blow?
Stop it with that singing!

Do you behead him
Deep inside his castle walls?
Fill a glass to the brim
With poison to make his heart stall?

Of course not!
Come, children, make a spectacle of it.
His blood will surely boil hot
If every commoner witnesses this little bit.

Make it bloody,
And, by the gods, make it brutal!
I know we can find somebody
To take a task so crucial.

It's time to rid this horrible world
Of it's demanding absolute monarch.
With wings unfurled
This world will forever bear our mark.

Leave behind the songs
And become your own ruler.
Let's right these wrongs
Without becoming crueler!

Come, my sweets,
It's time for target practice.
Follow along, children, into these empty streets
Where the knights once attacked us.

pretty frightening scenario Lexi ... history certainly has enough examples of brutal mob mentality that kills and destroys a great deal of itself in the process of toppling a "king" ... so many times it takes educators, philosophers, and many many books in its wake :(
and in today's world ... the call is sobering ... here in the US it seems to find its expression in schools, churches and music concerts ... a madness only true fiery love can cure :(((((

Few times in the history of the world had peaceful actions changed the world.
"Leave behind the songs
And become your own ruler.
Let's right these wrongs
Without becoming crueler!"
I liked the complete poem Lexi. It is sad, take violence to change this world. Thank you for sharing your worthwhile words and thoughts.

Wow, quite a poem in itself. Being ruled by another from another country is not nice. I can understand that.

It is a well written poem with nice rhythm, flow and rhyme structure.
The message is quite clear and wonderfully depicted.

Well, Canada is still under British Monarchy; I wonder, is this what inspired you to write this?
