It Is a Free World

It Is a Free World

A Poem by Li Yan
"

They say it is a free world, but when you look carefully enough, it is a cruel world with expectations which if not reached, will cause you to be criticised and shunned.

"

It is a free world.

We are all entitled to our own opinions.

But you must bite your tongue until it bleeds.

For your freedom will be your undoing.

It is a free world.

Where we may all express our originality.

But you must copy everyone else.

For your originality will become your burden.

It is a just world.

You may live in the safety we have created for you.

But keep your eyes on your children.

For they can be torn out of your arms at any moment.

This world wants you to be happy.

Just as long as you cry.

Enough tears to drown in.

So say "goodbye".

Please just say the wrong things.

Trip over your feet.

Stutter in your speech.

Hate yourself for being so worthless.

What's the worst the can happen?.

Death is not but another temporary impediment in your life.

After all,

What is the purpose of the world if not to serve your desires?

Author's Note

Li Yan
Constant full stops to symbolise restrictions and create an irony against the concept of freedom.
