The Purpose of a Mask

The Purpose of a Mask

A Poem by Shroud

We all wear Masks No one is as they seem

"What is the purpose of a mask?"
"To conceal the identity of the wearer"
"To hide what does not want to be found"
"To create something that does not exist"
"To be someone who you are not"
“Over time, as we age”
“Our masks will crack and tear”
“But they will never leave”
“What is the purpose of a mask?”
“To hide us, and everything we dislike”

Author's Note

Sorry this one is much darker, I wrote it in a... less than happy mood.

I can relate to this poem personally. The mask I wear to hide what I feel, to try to conceal my sadness. Sometimes it falls off for a second and I can't hold the tears in anymore. I guess I have created something that is so far-fetched, that even I don't like it. I act happy and like I'm fine, but I just don't want people to see how messed up I really am. Very well written! Amazing work!
