Long Gone

Long Gone

A Poem by Laytee Lannette

Sitting up at 3 in the morning, my eyes can't find sleep
Instead I'm up reminiscing of your touch, your presence
How i know it all so well
High school sweethearts at least that's how it begun
You used to believe in me, comfort me, when my fears start to grasp my best
Late night strolls to wherever the sidewalk path led us
My best friend, my lover you was always down
Spontaneous trips to a city across the waters
Or just boring trips to the museum, the aquarium
It was whatever, whenever, wherever the world was our canvas
Sitting here tryna paint the perfect picture, but something's missing
My perfect fairy tale, our happy ending got misconstrued
Love, so great it could stay afloat like HMS Victory
Or so ambiguously determined to finish the journey, only to sink so low as Titanic
The voyage it's been long over, some time the ending inevitably destined to come
