Call of the Moon

Call of the Moon

A Poem by Cassie Holloway
"

Beach scene at night. Cassandra's thoughts and words (possible others) as she stares out at the ocean belonging on California's coast. Never been there so sorry if it makes little sense.

"
The restless waves roar
As I neared the beach
My bare feet were caressed
By the soft sand and I felt
That the night and Nature was there
Attempting to comfort me

My constant companions were eerily silent
As I began to sing
Knowing that my voice would be drown out
With the Fury of the waves.

"Memories once so fresh
Fade away in dawn's cruel grasp
Where each day quickly changes into another
I am left wondering where my life went wrong"

Large bat wings wrapped me in a half embrace
To which I stiffened at the unexpected touch
Preventing the cool wind from freezing me
A deep dark voice broke me from those thoughts

"Waited long for one to notice me
For one to save me from my prison
Our to continue my goal that was never completed
I'm glad it was you."

I brushed past the wings and was
Then enveloped in shadows
With a annoyed sigh I turned my head
To face Royce Davidson's hidden face.

"Death comes equally for all
For kings and peasants alike
But fear not young Cassandra
Death will not become you"

He knew my fear of dying
As well as being utterly alone
Only the fact of him being 'Death'
Could have explained it

"Shut up you damn necrophiliac!
Can't you see your words scare her?
I already have enough trouble dealing
With this job protecting her.
I Do NOT need your help."

Royce turned to the young dragon
And I took a step back
When he smiled with insanity
Seeping back into his expressions
"What did you say..."

I walked over to the quieting waves
Dipped me foot in and splashed around
So busy in my own little world was I
That only Keita's slight cough and pointed upward finger
Caught my attention to the bright full moon.

"Earlier it was quite cloudy
Then we headed out.
Maybe the moon wanted to greet you
At your new residence?"
He gave a slight shrug

The moon was indeed beautiful
A white circle amongst the dark bluish-black sky
Shining it's own light
Upon the earth

Sounds of fighting made Keita, Isaac, and myself turn to
See blood staining the once pristine beach.
With a nod to Keita who dragged away the dragon
While I hugged the rampaging exiled Afterlife Guardian
Slowly things returned to normal

We headed back to the mansion
Where my grandfather was awaiting
I imagine we were quite a sight to behold
Though he just smiled gently

"The Call of the Moon Can Do That."
