Serenity's Path~

Serenity's Path~

A Poem by Lily Mae
"

Life lines within the white of the cracked paint~

"

Walking up this old path to the farmhouse of my youth

the stark landscape, the beaten cobblestones beneath my feet

remind me of the barren Grey and white of the life I lived

The birch trees look like a village of Quakers with bible in hand

swaying in the wind, creaking and still projecting fear and judgment

Their voices still sway in the wind unchanged from those times

of my youth...times of walking the fine line between death and hell

Reaching the door my hand lands on a dry weathered frame...the paint

on the door itself peeling off leaving mounds of white on the earth

Brittle and frail and yet look at this place still standing..still ominous

throughout time, the storms, the changes in seasons, the damage done yet she still stands

Pressure against the door releases a screeching sound from rusted hinges

maybe entrance isn't needed...maybe all these visuals are all I need

No further punishment is warranted to heal...so I forgo the entrance

while flashes of abuse and pain flood my thoughts

The scars on my skin are enough, the scars in my heart far to prominent still

so there is no need for “in your face” therapy..some things never simply disappear

Removing my hand I see flecks of white paint on my fingers

quickly I dust it off...nothing from this place will leave with me...

(not one thing)

Turning around, I gaze upon this land just one more time

this will be my last time...today I remove the ties that have left me bound

Reaching the gate I hear the eery creaking of the door to the house

I turn and my chest caves from the fleeting escape of a gasping breath

There in the doorway was the image of me

There in the doorway,  I was empty eyed and vacant of

Running back to the house, I reached for her...I reached for me

slammed that door shut and held her hand to my heart

You see I was wrong

today I did leave this place with something

I left this place void and empty of me

Today...this day...I am whole...I am free

Wow, this left me breathless, honestly, I can not even believe I read this for it was more of an experience than anything I could have read.

Lily Mae, you write with an angel's hand and a painter's eye. Everything you write seems to touch me in one way or another. Thank you for posting this.

I very much liked this work. The music and the initial image especially gave a haunting theme (just a sucker for piano music).
There were several elements of the piece that i appreciated, not the least the taking and letting go, the crux betwixt the two. In every exploration of our past this yin and yang is always experienced, and strangely so.
Well done.

I do not want to repeat- but WOW, again! You have a very natural talent- beautifully written- it was like a book that I could have continued to read on- it brought me back to my own youth, my own pain from the past, my own ability to finally let go. You have created a magnificent, unique piece of poetry that holds a life time of emotion behind each and every word. Brilliant piece of work- tears are falling as I am writing this review. Thank you for sharing this elegant, yet very sensitive piece of work.
