The One Who Waits

The One Who Waits

A Poem by Faye
"

...And it all ended too soon...

"

I am the one who waits
For that which never comes,
Trapped in a prison of my own making
Cold bars of dying love wrapped in pain,
I wait, alone and unaided
For no one can see my cage,
Confined for what seems like an eternity’s sentence
While the key to these wailing shackles remains free…
…But lost, so lost that it cannot find itself.
It knows not what it is.

I am the one who waits
For a past joy that can no longer be embraced,
Sick with the looming fear that
Such happiness as to seem unreal
Was truly a dream,
Drowning in memories
That cannot be erased,
Images that, though smooth as silk
Sear my mind mercilessly.
How does that which was once cherished
Now cause so much suffering?

I am the one who waits
For a future out of reach,
Weeping pitiful pleas
For a chance to grasp that dream,
Lost in the maze of complications
And responsibilities that clothe reality,
Weighed down by the worries of a heart
Brought low by the pains of complicated love,
I reach, but one cannot touch possibility.

I am the one who waits
For the love that may not have been
And may never be again,
Afraid to let go
Of a memory so sweet,
But not knowing
If this empty ache is worth it,
I am the one who sees,
And feels,
And loves,
And misses so,
Each look, each touch, each embrace,
Each word…each moment…each breath…
That we shared,
That we enjoyed,
Together…
That you seem to have left behind so easily…
You walk away and move on...
But still I wait.

I love this poem that you have written, each stanza
describes its own emotion and a different story is told.
My favourite is the second stanza;
"Images that, though smooth as silkSear my mind mercilessly. How does that which was once cherishedNow cause so much suffering"
especially those lines, great work, this has to be one of my favourites; my heart can
painfully relate.
