Ode to a Spider

Ode to a Spider

A Poem by Lisa Lindsey
"

who hung her web from my porch lamp

"

Intimately you come, tiny weaver,
through silver veils of morning,

spinning your orb in rhythm
with life, the cobwebbed sky,
trees netted in fog, October-like

while I, tangled in a world
directed by Tim Burton,
observe your Danse Macabre,
promises of longevity broken

until the sun sweeps the mist
and threads the view with diamonds
of dew -- ethereal, beautiful,

like you, my uninvited
but welcomed guest,
hanging your silken castle
from a porch lamp.

My home is your home.
Both are temporary.

Very nice. It conveys imagery and emotion and does it well poetically. Thanks.

Nicely penned. Poetic and rather poignant.

Thanks very much for reading and commenting, Robert!
I had the unique pleasure of actually witnessing a spider weave its web one windy day, outside my bedroom window. I couldn't believe the back and forth motion he mind-numbingly went through, all the while combating a light rain and persistent wind. So much to endure for such a small creature, for what was truly a temporary home.

"until the sun sweeps the mist
and threads the view with diamonds
of dew -- ethereal, beautiful,"

Your signature articulation gave this a brilliance that could match any Tiffany display, Lisa!
