Guilt-Free Butterfingers

Guilt-Free Butterfingers

A Poem by Lisa Lindsey

A stroll down the candy aisle
conjures visions of past Halloweens
with costumed innocents braving the dark
in pursuit of a sugar high.

I miss those nights of digging
through sacks of treats, picking out
all the butterfingers while witchlings
and fang-boys slept unaware.

Halloween still brings a pleasurable
tingle, as I stir in my cauldron
a generous supply of guilt-free butterfingers.

Settling on the porch step,
I await the monster stampede.

i still love Halloween, but had something happen my last year of trick or treating..that this poem reminds me of..those monsters... i was wearing a hobo outfit with deep pockets....got jumped by two or three older boys...robbed of all my candy except one pack of gum...and didn't feel so brave in the dark.

Not too many "monsters" come into our neighborhood, but I, too, remember the days. Yes, guilt free and calorie free chocolate treats on Halloween...absolutely. There is a delightful nostalgia and innocence to this one, Lisa. Lydi**

Halloween as a prism to examine our evolution from the provided-for child to the adult provider. A fine concept!

Your fine review made me smile.. thank you!
dear Kelly, "the monster stampede".
This reminds me of when I went 'trick or treat
with my daughter when she was five years old.
The lady at the door was wearing a large monster
mask that fit over her entire head. I was dressed
as Yoda with a Yoda mask over my entire head.
The lady said to me, "I have loved Yoda, the wise one'
ever since I was a tiny monster". Yes, Kelly,
Trick or Treat is for children of all ages...
from nine to ninety two. Your poem is fanciful
while searching for your favorite 'quilt-free
butterfingers'... truly, Pat

All that's missing here is a howling wind, and a cup of coffee while sitting on that step! My favorite treat is butterfingers...omg, are they good!

Lisa, do me a favor...go to my home page and click on "photos". Go to the last page and click on the one that says "Happy Halloween". Lol, you'll love it!!
