Our Father

Our Father

A Poem by L.M.W.

Oh Father, Dear Father.

Why do you look down and only gape?

Why do you see the pain and gaze at shame?

Damned are we here, and to what end.

Stuck in the times that determine our ends.

Do you smile upon us when we shed tears?

Do you laugh when blood mixes with sweat,

Or is it pleasure to see how there is no end to our fall?

Oh Father, Dear Father.

Are we not copied from thy image?

Are those tears from above-

Tears of joy over the madness,

Or tears of shame due to our performance.

Your image we must be to do as we do.

To be as we be, to live as you live.

We are told that we can’t repeat the past,

Yet the past holds our future problems.

We don't seem to learn,

Yet we seem to be able to adapt to the change.
Oh Father, Dear Father.
Love I thought it was,
But hate it must be.
Whether hate or love be your poison,
I shall not be apart of it.
So I'll shed thine chains
And spill thy blood,
For the faith I thought was rightly just.
I shall turn my back and wipe the tears.
I will wait for you to set the sun again.
In the dark I will wait, while you whip at me in anger,
I'll let you have my pain in return for your anger.
Until you have no anger left,
And I no blood left to spill,
So you can return again to be that which is worthy of our faith.
