The Last Vendetta

The Last Vendetta

A Poem by H

We kissed in the fields

On the last night there were roses

We kissed in the fields

Where the roses once bloomed

We held each other

Like we would never let go

We held on to the hope

That we would always be free

But in our hearts

We knew

That with the roses

Died our freedom

A beautiful poem. To be young and unafraid. Best days in a life is when we can escape and be free. In the end we fall into life. A excellent poem.

This is heartbreaking. The symbolism of the roses is an excellent image, a very well rendered metaphor for the loss of innocence and freedom two lovers were met with. "we held each other like we would never let go". Like seems to be the key word here, as they ended up having to let go and leave each other. They knew it was going to happen too, and there was nothing they could do about it. This looks to be like they are trying their best to enjoy their final night. Wonderfully penned. I don't have any real complaints at all, though the title confuses me. Why is it a vendetta? Great job.
