The Nix

The Nix

A Poem by E.R. Jonas
"

Poem about the northern myth about the nix (in native tongue: Nøkken). A creature living in the swamp, abducting young people.

"
In a forest far from here
I'll tell you what once were
The cause of great panic and fear

In the forest: A lake in his care
If you listen to this tale, then beware
He comes out more than once a year

On his violin; A tune so rare
If you do not close your ear
He will you soon enough ensnare

Beneath the surface lies his lair
People tell their kids "Don't go there"
He has been the cause of many a nightmare

On his violin; A tune so rare
If you do not close your ear
He will you soon enough ensnare

Besides the lake lies one shoe of a pair
Did I not tell you; "Don't go there"

Author's Note

E.R. Jonas
The poem comes with a melody which has yet to be recorded.
I mainly want to know what people know about it. I am aware that the grammar is a bit weird some places, but I hope it works.

I really want to hear the melody so you should post that as well, but not knowing what it was I still really enjoyed this is was spooky, and fun. very well.

Ola Loke, cool poem. If you don't mind telling me, what is the Nix? I never heard of it before. At some points, the flow of the poem was a little off. Anyway, I like the spooky-ish-ness-osity ( is that even a word?) of this poem. It's like a warning, and at the end of the poem, where we see that one shoe left by someone who didn't listen- I liked that. Whatever the Nix is, I'm sure it's well represented in this poem. I'm not even sure if I'm making sense, I'm tryin to say I liked it. Did you ever get that melody up? Can you send me a link for it? Thanx : )

I'll be honest I knew nothing about the Nix until now. Although, since I love Germanic lore research on the Nix's stories is a welcomed idea.

Can't wait to hear the melody.
