My Story

A Story by Emily

This is me

"
Not many know what it's like to be me and to get sick at 17,
To almost have your life taken away from you,
I was in and out of the hospitals more often then one should be,
I almost didn't survive the last hospital stay after having a seizure in the water,
2 weeks in a induced coma, Rated between 4-6 years old.
Looking in a mirror thinking my name was Josh,
Having no idea who my parents were,
The doctors wondered if I'd ever be the same again.
They prepared my parents with the fact that there little girl may never go back to her 16 year old self.
They didn't know the extent of the brain damage my 6 hour seizure did.
Finally time went on and I went back to being who I was, or at least who I thought I was.
I had a normal life for a couple of years until tragedy struck our house again.
My dad killed at work tragically, a brutal pill we all had to swallow and relive for the next three years with lawyers and courts.
Little did we know they would put me in a room to show me a picture of him being crushed by a tank,
An image only I've seen and an image I'll never be able to get out of my head.
We got our lives back together after the lawsuit and were able to keep pushing forward with life.
Until my health would smack me in the face again.
4 years had passed with no seizures and then we started all over,
I remember waking up in the hospital laying in the bed,
Rolling over to see my mom and my uncle and knowing it all started again.
But little did we know this time it was worse,
I had scar tissue from my previous seizures which led up to a year of tests and having brain surgery,
2 years later I'm still not working or driving and don't know if I ever will be able to. But I will continue to keep pushing and holding out hope.

Life has given you a lot of challenges. The only way to preserver is to keep your head up and stay positive. You can find a way to survive and make a positive impact if you just keep yourself open for when that chance arrives.
