The LOVE SONG…

I heard a love song start to play
So I reached out in my usual way
To turn it off…didn't wanna hear
No whining stuff singing in my ear
But I hesitated for a moment
And I thought it sounded rather pleasant
While my heart began to fill with joy
As this woman sang out to her boy
About the love she felt
Between their hearts so true
And how the love they shared
Turned her grey skies blue
Refrains of high-pitched glee
Rang out in plenty
When I began to think my soul
Could use some candy…
Why couldn't I sing
A love song to myself?
Who said I had to wait
'til my heart was off some shelf and
I in someone's arms- knowing I belonged
To another's heart
Just to sing a love-song?
Oh I sang 'em before when I was a teen
I'd be cleaning the house, and vacuuming…
And singing out loud at the top of my lungs
About the love I had, how my heart had sprung…
But even then—Never to myself,
Not like this time, no
Its different now!
I'm going to love myself
Tap into love's great power
Gonna fill me up
On some happy this hour!
I'm singing that tune over in my head
A love song to me
Celebrating my love of LIFE instead!!!

Great poem! Did you do that logo? It's fantastic. I really like the sentiment you shared here...a lot. It made me think, too, of how many love songs apply to more than just sappy, puppy love (not that that kind of love is bad...but it's just one, fleeting, experience of the emotion). One of my favorite love songs is Celine Dion's "A New Day Has Come," which she wrote about her son. "My Heart Will Go On" always makes me think of my late mother. As always, I truly appreciate the effort you put into your word choice and your rhyming scheme. It always pays off for you. You're crankin' out a lot of really good stuff lately!

And that sounds like a plan! I like this poem. I like it's style, it's sentiment. Made me feel good. Thanks!

Very nice indeed. And yes, why should the love songs always be sung to someone else?
Nicely done!
