The Climb

The Climb

A Poem by Chris M
"

Just another break-up poem.

"
I've been walking for days and my progress is slow.
The skree cracking and crumbling beneath my feet.
I trudge on - determined to scale and vanquish,
My whole being burning and cramping with the effort,
My mind unable to focus on anything else.
Something deep within me insists that everything will be fine,
If I can only reach the summit and peer off the edge.
We walked this walk so often, one more time won't hurt.
But this is the final time, and it's that much steeper.
I stumble, cry out - I can't do this anymore,
But I pick myself up,
Force myself to go on,
'Cos when I don't have to climb anymore, I'll feel just fine.
