6am, Wide Awake

6am, Wide Awake

A Poem by Chris M
"

Waking up early after the night before - still buzzing.

"
6am, wide awake,
On a high from the night before,
We walked in the rain and we linked arms,
Could not ask for anything more.
6am, wide awake,
Sitting for hours, catching up,
Feels like we've done this for years,
Emptying two large tea cups.
6am, wide awake,
Remembering every minutia,
Your clothes and your jewellery, the way you smiled at me,
Conversations about the future.
6am, wide awake,
Your eyes are stuck in my mind,
Strikingly green, like nothing I've seen,
- so understanding and kind.
6am, wide awake,
My stomach spinning, giddy with flutters,
Knowing you might feel the same,
At this moment is all that matters.
