Slaughter

Slaughter

A Poem by Lucia

Where trees once kissed the skyline

I find ribs upon a cage

Where pristine borders now entwine

I once bore twinkling stage

Where honey once did glisten

Upon my eager lips

I find they are now lapping

By pools of precipice

For harmony now lacking

Guides my beatless march

I can but stride on deeper

Into the binding dark

And yet you say my light is bright

As if I carry it so well

But to me the light is blinding

And it carries me through hell

I hold my mask as it’s too heavy

to hold upon my head

In hands as I lay weeping

For the lands that I have tread

And call to god to save me

Though I know him to be dead

And just as real my hope is

Life is but a shadow of its stead

So tell me again how I am pretty

With your petty shallow thoughts

And not the courage to call me meaty

For all the weakness that I’ve wrought

A heart upon a sleeve is but the slaughter to a kill!

And I forever always, bending to its will

A lot of personal information here. I like the threads you wove into this piece. I get the inner pain that comes from the life events that we control. The disappointment. Glad to see that you are writing elegant poems like this one to express it.

This is a real journey of despair.
A lot of asking going on. But no answers coming back.
I'm not religious. But it feels like a test of faith.
You leave a lot of questions in your writes. Like that.
