Symptoms of Me

Symptoms of Me

A Poem by Lucy Morningstar ♥
"

A list poem I just had to write for a class that I wanted to share with you guys.

"

1

My heart beats

So fast you’d think it was

an Olympic runner vying for gold.

2

The walls are closing

In around me, wrapping me up tight,

burying me alive.

3

Can’t move, can’t speak

Words walk away from me

Soon enough I can’t breathe.

4

The shaking starts in my core and moves

Out and out and out until every single

Part is moving to an unseen beat.

5

I can’t feel my legs, or my arms,

Or my hands, or my feet,

Though my body tells me to leave.

6

Something bad is going to happen

someone I love is dying somewhere,

Something is crawling under my skin and I can’t get it out.

7

I get my legs working and try to stand

But it feels like I’m going to pass out

And I can no longer see where I’m going.

8

I run home, ignore the crushing crowd,

Past my parents, up the stairs, climb into bed,

Toss, turn, back and forth, rinse, repeat.

9

Let the nightmares begin.

I'm assuming that this is about anxiety while in public? (Sorry if I'm wrong) If so, this definitely rings true as I've had that same feeling several times, so I don't go out to much. I've also heard descriptions of bad anxiety from friends and this sounds very much like it. This is a very good description and the feeling coming through your words are very true and make something so unnerving and scary beautifully poetic

Yeah, I have severe general anxiety disorder and I wanted to kind of articulate what that feels like.. read more
This has quite a dark atmosphere to it, and it kind of reminded me of stage fright. I think that many people could relate to this poem in some way. You have delivered once again! :)

My overall favorite is this one

Can’t move, can’t speak
Words walk away from me
Soon enough I can’t even breathe.
