Goodbye Audie

Goodbye Audie

A Poem by Sydnye Louise

GOODBYE AUDIE

She sighed as she died

and I watched her fade away,

into the blackening

state of decay.

She spoke out,

“I’m not ready to go,

not today.”

But we knew that was the

last thing she would say.

The door then was closed

as I was ushered to go,

but I took one last look

at the woman I know.

Tomorrow I’ll say,

the woman I knew,

for by then she will have

already passed though.

Her frail body laid there,

with wrinkles all about.

Her ears still could hear,

they’re the last thing to go out.

So I whispered goodbye,

and I left her right there.

My last words to her,

I leave thick in the air.

I love that there is little rhymes here and there. It keeps the flow going.
