Midnight Eyes

Midnight Eyes

A Poem by Brittany Zedalis

During a trek through a frigid woodland,

something flashed before my eyes, white,

ripping me from silent solitude,

an owl starkly contrasted against the earthen tones,

I watched, devoted and inquisitive of this enigma

as its claws touched down just before me,

midnight eyes fixated on my own, motionless,

my feet fastened to the soil beneath,

I struggle to pull myself free, to reach beyond the barrier,

while the creature continued to stare, in such silence

that I was sure I must have been deafened,

my fingers outstretched, straining,

longing for just one connection, however brief,

and with the distance scant between,

its wings spread in blinding light, vanished,

restoring my solitude

Luna, Came back for a second sitting, an admirer staring at a piece of art. Speaking of pieces of art, if you would like to seen a picture that would fit very well with this piece, go to Bing images and search 'rush fly by night' a lightly colored owl with eyes THIS BIG. Just if you have time.......take care-dan

This is wonderfully written Luna, the owl is such a majestical creature of old ways and wisdom, the atmosphere to this piece is brilliantly done :)

There are a number of different ways to interpret this poem, so i am not going to try. I am curious though, what was the owl not saying outloud but implied none the less, i am thinking the "I" in the poem perhaps does not enjoy the solitude..........thought provoking poem..................

Thank you, Syber!
Hi Luna I had to come visit after your great review of my poem and i'm astounded by this one its like a dream scene, if i were sleeping now i could be in this picture, that's how it feels, the description is beautiful and the fascination of the owl's eyes locked on to yours was spellbinding, the lines of his silent stare making you believe you are deaf are the best part for me, it would happen if it were a dream, then suddenly the owl is gone and you resume that solitude, the great light vanished and you were at peace, almost the stillness of coming out of meditation, its brilliant writing, thank you :)
