A Poem by Kenneth Compton

Darkened waters cover me
Hold me gently in their arms
They bid me down into sleep
Lullaby of deadly charms
I'm so scared but I can't scream
Who is left to hear these words?
Sleep a sleep that has no dreams
In a dark no light can purge
For your hand I would reach
But you frown and slowly turn
Only heartbreak, it can teach
lessons that we'd never learn

Sleep a sleep that has no dreams - yes, would such come, it would be nice...
In a dark no light can purge - been there before...
