vulnerability

vulnerability

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

life points out that which we would like to ignore

"

conversations reach a natural ending
cycles are pedaled to the nearest segue way
while the universe as we know it gasps for air

time’s reflection knowingly winks at me
from the other side of the funhouse mirror
the arthritic rotation of my axis
creaks just a little more

instinctively i know there is a star in the sky
(even though it is noontime)
wanting to twinkle more
than anything has ever wanted to twinkle

rich openness mingles with ambiguity
i am once again reminded
(a rude awakening as it were)
of not just human vulnerability
but of my own

Vulnerability is not weakness…let time tick on and things change…physically and otherwise, it’s part of our story and people lie when they say it’s the worst part…though I can’t speak from experience! You are an insightful woman Lydi and I’m sure I will always learn from you! Wonderful poem!

It is sometimes painful to realise such...vulnerability is felt by us all, at some point, here though, it is expressed with insight and fluidity that moves and sparks some empathy...beautiful work love x

Mia, your reviews mean a lot to me. Thank you so much. Lydi**
Lydi, this vulnerability seems like it hunts us all, following our steps, stalking us in the night, peering through half opened curtains and unfortunately...we can not hide form it, but at time we can face it and say...not just yet my wicked adversary, not yet. Very well done my friend. Loved the "funhouse mirror" aspect.

Thank you for understanding my meaning, Jack. I appreciate the great review. Lydi**
GEEZE, I know this feeling all too well. Eye doctor says I need another operation, Dentist says I need to have another root canal and crown, (on one that has already had that done, no less) and my back just aches from thinking about having to go back to work tomorrow. Thank God I have reading glasses that help me to see these beautiful poems that you write. Redemption, I suppose? Trace

Really deep, Lydi...and everyone susceptible to this that Father Tine catches up with us all, and it waits for no one...my banged up body from playing sports is telling my age lol...we don't stay young forever, yet we can always feel young, at heart...nicely scribed.

Lol, I wish, but it flatters me to no end, Lydi. ;)
All that lives must surely die !

A biological fact though you break it to us much more delicately, in soothing metaphorical verse Lydia !

Fate has many surprises in store for us and many of them are unpleasant. Yet it is how we react to much of it that defines us in the end. I enjoyed this philosophical and introspective poem.

An excellent poem examining one's own situation at a moving point in time. Stunning second stanza. Nice style and rhythm and some images that rock. 100/100

We like to think we can conquer the world (at least I know I feel this way) but life has a funny way of showing us that we are in control of so little and we are indeed very vulnerable. I enjoyed this thought provoking read, Lydi.
