the street

the street

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

just thinking about my cousin today...i miss you ronny

"

it’s a nameless street
looks very much like others i’ve traveled
flowers bordering it may have names
but i never learned them
                  because you knew them
                          and could recite them easily
a street that has lasted
through named hurricanes
and being pummeled
by anonymous hailstones
a street that tempts me
with imagery waiting to be written
because it is the street
that always brings me back
to the memory of you

dear Lydi... I am reminded of the song
from My Fair Lady, entitled "On the street
where you live". My cousin David and his
sister Linda and I shared our childhood.
Now, they are both laid to rest in the
poetic cornfields where we played
and dreamed of our future families.
Your poem has crossed my heart in
familiar ways. truly... Pat

There is a nameless street within us all...harbouring memories of people, places and times that were our high points, beautiful and special. And though time may take away those people and those moments, that cherished lane remains.

"a street that tempts me
with imagery waiting to be written
because it is the street
that always brings me back
to the memory of you"

Loved the poem, so haunting...the images linger on in my mind.

I am moved with the sentiment on this poem.

this verses strongly depict the warm emotions and dependence in missing someone. There are poems that are a great read. But there are poems that brings us to where the scene is actually happening. Your poems are like portals to the what and when and where and how these emotions manifest itself. :)

Each and every street in the world has so much history, we almost forget that, when we walk, drive or bike on it, and here you give this special street in particular to you and with personal memories, an ode... What happened on this street, stays, almost like a tattoo in your heart. I think you have the eye and empathy for it to make things, shine on your way, and for your cousin... touching write my sweet friend.

Such a beautifully moving glimpse into your life... how those we love can impact us forever... Truly sorry for your pain in this loss, and for the absence that lingers.
